Yeast is used to make bread.  The dry yeast package is made by millions of dry up little organisms scientifically belonging to the Phylum Fungi. When you place dry yeast in warm water with a little sugar, they come alive, eat the sugar, breath out carbon dioxide gas bubbles and ....make babies. You need to use warm water and place the dough in a warm environment for yeast to reproduce fast, make lots of carbon dioxide, and therefore good bread. If the water is too cold yeast organisms are sluggish, if it is too hot they die
